Waffling On...

I am sitting amidst an ocean of notes and textbooks currently undergoing a soul transformation. Science was never a weakness for me but never something that came 100% naturally. Equations, numbers, complex chemical bonds and reactions have always been something that took a great deal more thought in my mind than composing literary responses and diving into the psychological depths of human behaviour. Nevertheless, here I am, 6 weeks deep in a Graduate Certificate of Human Nutrition. The Masters barely in sight at this stage and yet so far I have crammed what seems like at least 3 years worth of new science based information into my little humanitarian favouring brain. And why?!! Because something inside of me does somersaults and backflips and pirouettes and jetes whenever I connect with any stimulus that is remotely associated with food and the body. A dancer by name and nature, a health and movement expert by day and fitness instructor by night has all bases covered for my interests in physicality, however, for a long time now I've been battling to understand the way food fuels and benefits the body. I don't trust other people's opinions and advice on the matter because frankly there are just way too many conflicting ideas coming from instafamous fitness addicts and self confessed foodies of the world. So to resolve this inner turmoil I'm turning to science to find the answers myself. As someone who has been devoted to exercise and cooking for the greater part of my existence, I want to use sound, supported knowledge to help influence positive change in the way people view themselves and embrace their divine daily rituals. I want my recipes to be reputable, trustworthy and staple go-to's for those who are "not sure" if they are making healthy food choices. I want my workouts to be foolproof, proven, consistently applicable in any person's day to day lifestyle. After all, the things we do every day are the things that impact us the most! Mouth, Mind and Movement.... it's coming. In the interim, here is the tiniest of snippets. But an amazing snippet at that! Choc-Oat Waffles! Ingredients: 1 egg 1 1/4 cups hazelnut milk (or milk of choice) 50g melted butter or coconut oil 1/2 cup oats 1/2 cup oat flour 1 1/4 cup almond meal 2 tsp cacao 2 tsp baking powder 1 tsp natvia Method: 1. Mix together all dry ingredients in a bowl 2. Whisk together eggs, milk and butter/oil 3. Make a well in centre of dry mix and pour in wet mix. Stir to combine. 4. Pour half a cup of mixture onto waffle iron and cook til brown and crispy 5. Serve with berries, a splash of pure maple syrup and a sprinkle of buckinis! For more of a chocolate treat spread a Tbs or 2 of Pure Harvest Coco2!
